In Las Vegas, it’s always out with the old and in with the new without much sentiments for the implosions which will leave some teary-eyed. Steve Wynn, of course would have nothing to become sentimental over when his Desert Inn project became one of the most beautiful new Las Vegas Resorts and this resort came about practically overnight even by Las Vegas standards.
The ‘90s were good to Steve Wynn and he became the new godfather or founding father or something to that extreme of Las Vegas. Where Las Vegas still held the ‘sinful’ pleasures and somewhat catered to a particular crowd, Wynn decided to change all of that and he is ultimately responsible for transforming Las Vegas internet casino into a family destination.
With Treasure Island and the Bellagio proving to be more than a successful sidewalk entertainment venue, Wynn realized families wanted to visit Las Vegas too.
In early 2000, Kirk Kerkorian became the new owner of “Wynn” of Las Vegas buying up Wynn holdings and freeing up Steve Wynn to realize yet another dream. Wynn’s branded hotel Wynn Las Vegas was initially plotted to be named after a Picasso painting called , “Le Reve” which means ‘The Dream’ only later did Steve Wynn decide to name the property Wynn Las Vegas and because of the prestige and prominence his name carries , it was probably a good move for him to do so.
Even though Steve Wynn has tried unsuccessfully to move many of the huge poker game to his poker room at Wynn’s from the Bellagio, most of the poker professionals stay grounded in their Bellagio roots and Steve hasn’t been able to move the big bingo game he more or less encouraged from his former Bellagio to Wynn’s. However, this is the only area where he has apparently failed.
Steve Wynn’s hotel is nothing short of mesmerizing. Wynn’s rooms are most definitely some of the most lavish in all of Las Vegas. At the push of a button, the curtains open to beautiful views of the Nevada Mountains. The rooms have wet bars and plasma televisions and the suites are marvelous by even Las Vegas standards. Wynn knew the best suites were at the Bellagio and he knew how to out-do his former project, which he did accomplish with record success.
It is befitting that Steve Wynn should own this property which was once the Desert Inn since Steve Wynn bought some of his first property holdings from the Howard Hughes Corporation. The Desert Inn was home to Hughes during the mogul’s troubled years and Wynn must’ve felt some sort of connection to the property but obviously not enough to keep it in tact as it was before.
Overall, it isn’t likely that Steve Wynn will ever top this property. In a class of its own, Wynn Las Vegas is classy, elegant; posh and at the rates the hotel charges for a room, it had better be or it should be comped by Steve Wynn himself! |
